Why do people do physics at all? What are the reasons for being reasonable about nature? We will start out by tackling questions that deal with the role of physics and its methods in our society. After that we will look at some fundamental models and methods that physics uses in its aim to understand nature. For the main part you will be introduced to the standard model, the theory that describes the fundamental particles of matter. We will talk about quarks and antimatter, the unification of all forces and new developments in scientific research, and have a look at the unanswered questions in the basic natural science - physics.
