In this course students build a foundation for effective argumentation. The course stresses critical thinking & listening skills along with an attitude of appreciative inquiry with diverse perspectives. Students will develop a variety of tactical skills including; building a constructive case, evidence comparison, cost-benefit analysis, note-taking, engaging with opposing arguments, teamwork, audience adaptation and more. The class works collaboratively to create, research and prepare cases on a range of topics; including politics, social issues & philosophical questions. Participation, initiative and creativity are also encouraged. After completing this course, students will have a set of portable communication skills that they can use in a variety of ways throughout their academic, professional and private life. The skills gained through the course open the students up to several opportunities to network with the wider debate community in Austria and indeed Europe.
