In this elective course we want to explore a variety of regenerative environmental and social systems – not just in theory, but through field trips to various places in and around Graz. We will meet interesting people and learn about their ideas and practices, and we will also “learn by doing” things ourselves.
To create social and ecological structures that are resilient and well-prepared for the future, we need to understand the connections between ecology, climate, society and the economy. Therefore, it is crucial to learn about practical synergies between people and nature, as well as about alternative and community-based initiatives and methods of the circular economy.
This course consists of a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical content is developed through teacher input, but also through independent research, discussions and reflections. The practical part includes excursions to real-life examples of different forms of regenerative systems, where students also get a chance to try out and implement methods used in permaculture such as sheet mulching or mixed cultures.
