Throughout the centuries there have been hundreds of distinct societies around the globe with their own long-established traditions for third, fourth, fifth, or more genders. But why do people in the Western world speak of two (or three) genders only?
In this course we will explore the almost limitless variety of gender expression, the reasons for intolerance and stereotypes and the cultural and social factors that define gender.
We will discuss questions such as “What if nobody acted according to their assigned gender any more? What would be gained and what would be lost?”
