In this course students will build a foundation for effective argumentation. The course stresses critical listening skills and an attitude of appreciative inquiry with diverse perspectives. Students will develop a variety of tactical skills including; building a constructive case, evidence comparison, cost-benefit analysis, note-taking, engaging with opposing arguments, teamwork, audience adaptation and more. The class works collaboratively to create, research and prepare cases on a range of topics; including politics, social issues & philosophical questions. Participation, initiative and creativity are also encouraged. After completing this course, students will have a set of portable communication skills that they can use in a variety of ways throughout their academic, professional and private life.
